The Kam-Chinese-Thai-English dictionary is the fourth p […]

The Kam-Chinese-Thai-English dictionary is the fourth publication of the collaborative project between the Institute of Language and Culture for Rural Development (ILCRD), Mahidol University and the Kam-Tai Institute, Central University for Nationalities (CUN), Beijing, PR China.

The dictionary is an attempt to compile the Kam lexical entries and their equivalent meanings in Chinese, Thai, and English. The compilation started in 1996 and ended in 1998. The lexical entries were collected from Mr. Yang Quan who speaks the Tongdao variety of Kam spoken in Hunan province. The data were checked with Mr. Yang Tongyin from the same county.

The meanings of lexical entries in Chinese, Thai, and English are based on the dictionaries of Tienchai (1992, 1995), Boonchai (1996), and So Sethaputre (1997). The present volume of Kam-Chinese-Thai-English Dictionary consists of two parts. The first part is the general introduction of the Kam nationality. The materials used in this part were drawn from Mr. Yang Quan, available literatures, and the fieldtrips of the authors. The second part contains the Kam lexical entries with their meanings in Chinese, Thai, and English. An index is also provided for the user’s convenience.
